Canada’s bringing our presence and Pavilion online this year at the 44th Annecy International Animation Film Festival and Mifa, taking place from June 15 to 30, 2020.

This year’s online market will feature animated content, online meetings, video pitch sessions (including 3 Canadian projects!), networking opportunities, and much more, including our Canada Pavilion. (In partnership with the Embassy of Canada in France, the Alliance des producteurs francophones du Québec (APFC), the Canada Media Fund, the Canadian Media Producers Association (CMPA), Creative BC, Ontario Creates, SODEC/Québec Creatif, and the Talent Fund.)

Canada’s making its online presence known with some amazing animated shorts in official competition:

  • Andreas Hykadea’s Altötting (Germany-Canada-Portugal coproduction)

This short tale of a Bavarian boy who falls in love with the Virgin Mary

Hot flashes can be part of aging and this short film follows a woman named Ace Naismiith who is dealing with just that before a television appearance!

The search for self-knowledge is the theme of this National Film Board of Canada production, through the unlikely meeting between a rooster and a troubled priest.

Voiced by Xavier Dolan, a man examines his life, from Bulgaria to Canada, in this National Film Board of Canada .

A short coproduction for kids in the Young Audiences section:

  • Tobias Schlage’s and Brent Forrest’s Like and Follow (Canada-Germany coproduction)

A kid and his smartphone can sometimes be inseparable, so whenever he strays, his smartphone tries to win back his favour!

And Canada will also be present with a project in the VR Works – Competition:

An expressionistic VR ode to nature’s struggle for existence, explored through a chain of genetic love affairs.

Don’t miss the online Canada Pavilion here for more cancon! See the full list of Canadian producers and companies attending the virtual market.
